Best Pasta Maker – Top 10 Auto and Electric Pasta Maker 2020

Pasta is an essential supply in the diet of traditional Italian cuisine. With the first reference dating to as far back as 1154 in Sicily. It can be commonly referred to as the variety of pasta dishes. Normally, pasta is a noodle prepared from an unleavened dough of a durum wheat flour. It's mixed with water or eggs and formed into sheets or different shapes, then cooked by boiling or baking. You can also prepare it with flour from other cereals or grains.

Since pasta was first conceptualized, the art of pasta making and the dedication to the food, in general, have evolved. The popularity of pasta can be owed to Italy and Europe. It was originally a single part of the Italian and European cuisine. As a result of an increase in popularity on a worldwide scale, pasta has most definitely crossed international borders. Hence, this has made it a popular form of fast food and a staple in North America and elsewhere.

This is owing to the massive amount of Italian immigration into Canada and the United States during the beginning of the 20th century. Spaghetti with meatballs became an essential part of South African cuisine. This is a result of the immense immigration of Italians into South Africa. Thereby, they ensured it happened.

What is a Pasta Maker?

Moving on, let's take a brief look at the best Pasta Maker. It is a kitchen utensil, used to roll pasta dough into thin sheets of pasta. The Pasta Machine is a motor-driven machine or a hand-cranked machine. That's built to roll out the dough, stretches it, and then cuts it to size. Larger Pasta Machines are designed to mix and extrude dough and formed into shaped pasta. Nonetheless, those are more common in commercial use.

As for home use, the hand-crank machine is the most common. Well, unless homemade pasta is an everyday event. Or there is a need or desire to make the process more thorough by using a machine with a motor.

The Pasta Machine is most often made of stainless steel. This covers a set of rollers through which rolls the pasta dough. The machine flattens or stretches the pasta, as the dough passes through the rollers. Depending on the setting selected for the thickness, it then creates a thin to thick strip of dough formed into the desired pasta.
The machine may also come with attachments that you can use. It can cut different sizes of pasta strips into noodles, linguine, fettuccine or other pasta of this type.

It is necessary to understand the processes of the machine as well as roll the pasta. So it provides the results desired. This is because when adjusting the thickness of the dough as it's rolled. If it's made too thin, it will not be properly cooked and will turn out mushy rather than that of delicate texture.

You may still be wondering why on earth would anyone bother to go through the stress of making pasta from scratch. When it's only a boiling pot of water and a cardboard box away. Then, it's time to get acquainted with the fresh stuff. It's important here to understand that fresh pasta and dry pasta are two different beasts. They're the best ideal for various tasks. And the qualities we look for when making them are noticeably different.

  1. Lello 2730 3000 Pro Pastamaster Pasta Maker

For over a decade, the Lello 2730 Pro Pastamaster has been on the market. The question of whether it can still stand a chance against the new electric pasta makers start popping up more than ever.

With this review on the Lello, you will know what you can expect from this pasta maker on a daily or weekly basis. But, it will be also compared to a few of the newer (and better) players on the market.

As an electric pasta maker, the Lello varies from the classic pasta rollers that you might know. Take note that the Lello 2730 is an electric pasta extruder and not a pasta roller.
The major difference between a pasta extruder and a pasta rolling machine is that it extrudes the pasta through the shaping discs. Rather than rolling and cutting the shapes.

The reason why we have a special place for pasta extruders is that they can create shapes that regular pasta rollers cannot.
A classic pasta roller is for making shapes like lasagna sheets, spaghetti, fettuccine, and more types of "longer pasta,". A pasta extruder can also create short shapes such as penne and macaroni. Aside from the fact that it can make more various shapes of pasta, the Lello 2730 Pasta master is electric. It mixes and kneads the dough for you. And as expected, it also extrudes it for you.

Although the technical specifications of a machine like a pasta maker don't tell you everything you need to know. They can still be very crucial. One of the most important aspects is how much pasta this machine can produce in a given set of time. Although the Lello specs claim to be capable of making 3 lbs. of pasta in 20 minutes, I recommend that you don't push the machine to this extent.
A lot of power is required to knead and mix the pasta dough. And I discovered that the ingredients required for 3 lbs. pushes the Lello to its limits when attempting to make this amount of pasta.

I found out that the 300-watt motor had problems in mixing 3 lbs. of pasta dough. I had to get a big batch of pasta extruded in 30 minutes. But, since I rather not stress the machine to its limits, for the next batch of pasta I had to set the machine for 2 lbs. I did get my 2 lbs. of pasta in the promised time span of 20 minutes. But this still is a difference of 1 pound.
The Lello 2730 Pasta Maker has inbuilt overheating protection. This means that it shuts the pasta maker off when it gets too hot for its own good. Although I did not experience this, which is somewhat a good sign that it wasn't overheating. Thereby, this will improve the lifespan of the Lello.

Being a very light machine is something this pasta maker isn't, as it weighs 21 lbs. (or 9.5kg) and it isn't quite the most comfortable kitchen appliance to carry around. If your kitchen isn't that spacious, you might have to move the Lello around the house each time that you plan on making pasta. I must admit, this pasta maker isn't the best option. As compared to Philips which weighs 4 lbs. less and has a design that is more pleasing to the eyes.

PROS CONS
It is a full-cycle pasta machine that makes 3 pounds of pasta in about 20 minutes. It is not pleasing to the eyes.
It comes with a safety function that requires the mixing bowl and cover to be in place for operation. Weighs up to 21lbs which makes it heavy.
It has a 300-watt motor for overheat protection with auto shut-off and UL-listed. It leaves a large footprint in the kitchen.
This pasta maker comes with eight different pasta discs, a user manual, and 38 recipes included. It may likely overheat during use.
It’s powered by electricity, which means you don’t have to worry about using it manually.
It offers you a variety of pasta of different shapes and sizes because it is an extruder.
