Last Updated on June 19, 2020 by MakeThingsReal

I grew up learning that whatever tastes bad on my tongue is probably good for my health. This made it difficult for me to consume some food – vegetables inclusive and I moved towards ice cream and junk food, but I later learned how to consume these kinds of foods without feeling bad, and that’s because of the health benefits of juicing.

Now, that I’m fully grown with my own family, I’ve learned how to eat more of fruits and vegetables which my body requires staying healthy. This is how I discovered the power of juicing, and I’ve never looked back since then.

In this article, we will be looking at the health benefits of juicing.

  1. Nutrient absorption

This is one of the major health benefits of juicing as it allows you to consume three pounds of vegetables with ease. It does this by extracting the juice and leaving out the pulp which makes it easy to be digestible and gains entry into the bloodstream. With juicing you can consume more vegetables efficiently. If you’re worried about using fruits instead, remember that the body is expected to maximize veggies and reduce fruits especially high fructose fruits like apples. The body needs only 15 to 25 grams of sugar per time, and that can be gotten from other food sources. If you find dark greens to be too bitter, you can mix it up with lemon or oranges or any other low fructose content to reduce the bitterness.

  1. More nutrients to the body

When you juice, you get to consume a larger amount of vegetable variety. If you consume vegetables by cooking, you will have a limited supply as you can’t cook all the varieties in one fell swoop. Juicing helps you consume more variety as you can add more recipes and your only limit is probably the produce available in the grocery. You can use as much as 5 to 6 different vegetables from greens to cruciferous vegetables.

  1. Good bacteria

The body requires good bacteria to be fed to the gut. The key to a healthy body is having a healthy gut. The digestive tract is so important to the whole body as a third of our immune system is located in our digestive tract. According to a study carried out by Gemma Walton Ph.D., they found out that eating leeks and bananas increased the number of good bacteria fed to the gut. Vegetables are also known to be a great source of prebiotics which is rich in carotene, Vitamin C and E which helps to fight colon cancer. Another source of vegetable that can be found in juicing is ginger which aids digestion and heals the stomach.

  1. Fights Cancer

Another health benefits of juicing might not help cure cancer, but it will keep your body nourished during chemotherapy. The truth is, there is little to no scientific backing that proves that juicing is better than eating whole fruits but juicing has an advantage over eating whole fruits as it allows you consume and absorb more nutrients. For cancer patients who have a problem swallowing food or eating large quantities of fruits, juicing helps keep their body nourished especially during chemotherapy which kills blood cells. Juicing nourishes the body with anti-cancer nutrients that fight cancer cells. The results you also get from juicing are instant as your body won’t have to wait to break down the food as it would have when consuming whole fruits. The fruits we consume today are less nutritious than they were 20 years ago due to a number of factors which mean we have to consume more to compensate for this.

  1. Lower high cholesterol

Well, in a way. Lowering your cholesterol levels requires more than juicing. You might have to replace your beef, pork, and other saturated fat in your diet with fruits and seafood but juicing helps consume more vegetables that lower your cholesterol level. Some of these vegetables include dark greens, cucumber, ginger and bitter melon. To lower your cholesterol level, you need to change your diet, avoid saturated fats and eat more veggies.

  1. Helps with detoxification

The health benefits of juicing make it easier for you to detoxify your body. 80-90 years ago, a lot of us and our families had a much simpler life than what we have now. There was no internet or mobile devices. There was more home cooked meals and the slower paced lifestyle meant the meals were often healthier than fast food. Today, the pace of our lives has increased which means we consume more junks and the stress takes its toll on the body which makes it important to detoxify. Most of us need to detoxify our body to rid off the toxins that accumulate in the body over time due to our poor food choices and unhealthy lifestyle. Drinking juice regularly helps us detox in a fast way which helps us rest our digestive system, nourish it and flush out toxins.

  1. Sugar level

By changing your diet away from the likes fried food, beef, sodas, you can lower the blood sugar levels. You can lower your blood sugar by consuming more of ginger, broccoli, spinach, and onion. Juicing these vegetables help you consume more without putting pressure on your digestive system. Juicing also help us get better skin, as our body absorbs the nutrients it needs while reducing appetite for unhealthy meals that our bodies don’t need.

Conclusion

Juicing offers a lot of benefits that can help you improve your health and it can also help you reduce the amount of food you consume as it suppresses appetite, which in turn leads to a reduction in weight gain.
